Institutional Review Board |
The main activities of the Institutional
Review Board include: 1) reviewing and approving protocols for research
conducted by university faculty and students that involves human
subjects;
2) developing policy and procedures regarding human subject
research; and
3) ensuring compliance with federally mandated policies
and regulations. Appointment is made by the Vice Chancellor for Research,
for one year starting in August. |

The board meets once a month. Meetings are usually the second Tuesday of the
month from 3-5:30pm. Approximately 2-4 hours of preparation are required
to read and evaluate protocols prior to the meeting. In addition, board members may
be asked to participate in a review by mail in between meetings.
Prior experience
with research involving human subjects is required; 2-4 hours
of online training is also required. It is essential that IRB members be reliable
in attendance and in performing reviews. |
