These internship positions are an opportunity for three seniors each year to undertake professional, creative, and challenging assignments that provide a greater understanding of Student Affairs.
In the past, Turner Fellows have worked on issues related to strategic planning, campus safety, student fees, community-based learning and volunteer service, leadership development, and health and wellness. They have coordinated focus sessions to discuss pertinent student issues and planned and made presentations to the Chancellor’s Cabinet, Student Affairs’ staff, and students. They have constructed on-line surveys to evaluate specific programs, summarized findings in a report, and presented the recommendations to appropriate committees. The interns provide insights on student concerns and issues and learn about the operations of a comprehensive Student Affairs organization. |
About
Since 1978, 81 Turner Fellows have served the University of Illinois in this premiere opportunity. In keeping with the strong tradition of this position, the Turner Fellows are supported by a private endowment created to honor the late Fred H. Turner, Dean of Students at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from 1922-1967. A plaque identifying past and current Turner Fellows is located in the lobby of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. |
